Before the trial

Pick one organizer and a few people who use different devices or networks. Choose one ordinary, low-risk activity: planning a game night, sharing a clip, or holding a short voice session. Do not move your only copy of important history or files.

A 90-minute trial plan

  1. 0–15 minutes: set up a small space.Create one server, one text channel, and one voice channel. Avoid rebuilding your whole community.
  2. 15–30 minutes: invite the test crew.Have everyone register, follow the invite, and confirm they can find the text and voice channels in the web app.
  3. 30–55 minutes: use text like you normally would.Send messages, reply or react, share one non-sensitive file, and check whether recent information is easy to find.
  4. 55–75 minutes: test live communication.Join voice, check microphone controls, and share a screen. Test on the devices and networks the group actually uses.
  5. 75–90 minutes: decide, do not drift.Ask each person what worked, what blocked them, and what they still need. Choose to stop, run a longer trial, or move one limited workflow.

What to compare

Everyday chatMessages, reactions, files, search, custom emojiCan people follow and recover the conversation?
Live sessionsVoice channels and screen sharingDo audio and sharing work on your real devices and networks?
AccessWeb; current Apple Silicon Mac and 64-bit Windows buildsIs every required platform supported today?
DependenciesYour must-have bots, integrations, moderation, and notification habitsIs any missing workflow a blocker rather than a nice-to-have?

Mutiny does not claim feature-for-feature parity with Discord or another community platform. Compare current behavior with the workflows your group actually uses, and verify any must-have feature during the trial.

What will not move automatically

Mutiny's current public site and release materials do not document an automatic Discord importer. Do not assume that message history, channel structure, roles, permissions, members, emoji, integrations, or uploaded files will transfer. For this trial, recreate only the one or two channels and roles needed for the test.

Keep your old community available as the rollback path. If the trial fails, return there without losing access to history. If it succeeds, move one bounded activity first and keep the old space read-only or available until the group has confirmed what must be retained.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need to install an app?

No. Everyone can start in the web app. Current desktop releases are available for Apple Silicon Macs and 64-bit Windows PCs.

Will our Discord history, channels, roles, or files import automatically?

Do not assume so. Mutiny's current public site and release materials do not document an automatic Discord importer. Plan to recreate only the small test structure you need and keep your existing community available.

Should we close our old community during the trial?

No. Keep it available as your rollback path. Run one low-risk activity in Mutiny, gather feedback, and move nothing else until the group decides.

Run the trial with your crew

Start in the browser, create only the test space you need, and keep your current community available.
